Community

Students thrive when they are supported by a strong community where they feel safe and know that they belong. At ºÚÁÏÍø we are committed to ensuring the Girton community is sustained and nurtured by providing opportunities to build on new and existing friendships through a number of formal and informal groups and through community based events.

The School acknowledges and embraces the fact that it is the current and past students, staff, families and friends, who have created a strong culture and helped build the reputation Girton has held in the Bendigo region since it was founded in 1884. By involving members of our community, our School is a much richer and united community, all sharing the same path of educational excellence whether as parents, staff, students or members of associated groups.

Upon becoming a parent/guardian/relative of a Girton student, everyone is welcome to join the ºÚÁÏÍø community. We invite all members of the school community to embrace opportunities on varying levels to support your School. Be it by attending functions and reunions, friend-raising and fundraising, updating your details and by providing valuable feedback on issues you feel strongly about.

“I am of the opinion that my life belongs to the community, and as long as I live it is my privilege to do for it whatever I can.”
– George Bernard Shaw

When Girton was re-founded in 1992-1993 by Mr John Higgs, The Friends of Girton assisted by the founding Headmaster, Mr Clayton Jones, the Deputy Head, Mrs MacCulloch, and many others, it was a true effort of a community working together to produce something special. Over the past seventeen years, many students, staff, parents and others from the region have contributed mightily to the success of the School. We encourage everyone – staff, parents and students to work together as a community to achieve the Mission and to support and live the Values of the School.
