Ruby Conti selected for Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships

12 September 2024

Girton Grammar Year 12 student and School Vice-Captain, Ruby Conti, has been selected to represent Australia at the Aerobic Gymnastics World Championships in Italy later this month, fulfilling a dream she has worked towards for years.

鈥淐ompeting at the Senior World Championships had been a long-standing goal of mine, so finally achieving it after years of hard work was an incredibly proud and exciting moment for me,鈥 Ruby said.

鈥淎ttending international competitions is always inspiring, and I find myself coming home even more determined. After years of watching my gymnastics idols, having the chance to compete against them is a truly eye-opening experience.鈥

鈥淭here is certainly a level of pressure when you know you鈥檙e wearing the green and gold, but I try to trust the process of my training and not let the pressure get to my head.鈥

Ruby has succeeded in making the team despite facing a number of challenges this year, including the demanding transition from junior to senior competition and balancing her intensive training with Year 12 studies. Her dedication and strong support system have been key to her success.

鈥淪ince I was nine, I鈥檝e been travelling to Melbourne for training three to four times a week, so I鈥檓 used to doing homework in the car and managing my time at home wisely,鈥 Ruby shared.

鈥淲hen I entered Year 12, I decided to continue training in Melbourne, fully aware of the significant commitment it would require 鈥 and it definitely has been. Balancing school, studies, gymnastics and personal time has been my biggest challenge.鈥

“I鈥檓 fortunate to have an incredible team of athletes and coaches who have made the leap much smoother.”

Looking to the future, Ruby has her sights set on competing at the World Games in China next June, a prestigious event that brings together all gymnastics disciplines every four years. 鈥淐ompeting in this event is a huge dream of mine, as it is for most athletes. Given aerobic gymnastics is not an Olympic sport, this is a pinnacle for us,鈥 she said.

Alongside her plans to continue training and competing internationally, Ruby is also excited to move to Melbourne for university next year. 鈥淚鈥檓 especially looking forward to the shorter commute to training!” she added.
