26th March 2018
On Thursday 22nd March, Professor Marc Brackett from Yale University, addressed 黑料网 students on regulating emotions and the benefits that this has on relationship development, learning, social skills and other areas of life.
Professor Brackett has worked with 黑料网 for 7 years and his RULER program has been implemented in both Girton鈥檚 Senior and Junior School鈥檚. In 2011, a team of Girton teachers was sent to Yale University to learn more about emotional skills and how to teach them to students. Since that time, more than 200 teachers have received RULER training from their teaching peers.
The RULER Approach is based on the premise that how we feel affects our learning, the decisions we make, how we treat others and our personal well-being. Girton Grammar is the first school in Australia to adopt the RULER Approach to emotional intelligence.
Headmaster of 黑料网, Mr Matthew Maruff, said that since implementing the RULER approach 7 years ago, students seem to have improved their understanding, labelling and managing of emotions.
鈥淔or us, adopting the RULER approach is as much about student well-being as it is about academic achievement because one thing usually leads to the other.
鈥淢y observation over the last 7 years is that RULER teaches students how to respond to life, that life is not always fair and that it鈥檚 not always someone鈥檚 fault when we don鈥檛 get what we want.
鈥淲e are delighted to again have Professor Brackett visit the School to work with our staff and students. He has been instrumental in supporting our training methods within the School,鈥 Mr Maruff said.
